Is my accent good enough for a self-tape?

Casting directors often state in their casting brief that a specific accent, like standard American accent is required.  To achieve this, talent must firstly hear the accent in their mind before trying to use it in an audition tape. If talent are not confident about using an accent, they should use their natural dialect, instead.

Creatively, there is a significant difference between taking a creative risk and possibly risking the rapport we are trying to establish with the Casting Director. An accent that sounds real in a self-tape, takes a lot of  self-confidence.  The Casting Director will hear the accent immediately, witness the truth in the eyes of the talent, particularly if the accent is patchy, unclear, or not believable.

How an accent affects Casting Director rapport?

Crafting an audition tape performance rich in a believable accent is absolutely essential.  It will stand out more than the performance itself if the accent is inconsistent.

Bella’s expertise highlights the importance of delivering a consistent accent in a self-tape.  This creative skill can be achieved by anyone with lots of practice and consistency.
